Frequently asked questionsVPS hosting questions.
What is VPS hosting?
A virtual private server provides an isolated virtual environment with allocated resources and greater administrative control than typical shared hosting. The underlying physical infrastructure may still support multiple virtual servers.
Does MediaRack offer Australian VPS hosting?
Yes. Australian deployment is available, with the final location and configuration confirmed for the project. Other locations may also be considered when the workload or audience requires them.
What is the difference between self-managed and fully managed VPS?
With self-managed VPS, the customer administers the server, software and ongoing maintenance. A fully managed service assigns agreed configuration, monitoring, maintenance, backup oversight and support responsibilities to MediaRack.
Can MediaRack migrate my existing website or server?
Yes. MediaRack can assess the source environment, plan the destination, migrate compatible websites and data, test the result and coordinate DNS changes. The exact scope depends on access, software and data complexity.
Can I use Plesk?
Plesk can be included where appropriate, or a server may be administered through the command line. Licensing, operating system compatibility and the control-panel version are confirmed in the quotation.
How much CPU, RAM and storage do I need?
That depends on the application, database, traffic pattern, processing demand, storage growth and resilience requirements. MediaRack reviews the workload before recommending a starting configuration.
Are backups included?
Backup arrangements depend on the selected service and should be stated in the quotation. A proper plan defines what is backed up, where copies are retained, the schedule and how restoration will be handled.
Can VPS resources be increased later?
VPS resources can generally be reviewed and adjusted as requirements change, subject to the underlying platform and any migration or downtime considerations. Capacity should still be monitored rather than assumed.
