DNS changes are not always visible everywhere immediately. Internet providers, devices and recursive DNS services may retain the previous result until its cache expires.
Typical timing
- Individual DNS-record changes may begin appearing within minutes.
- Nameserver changes can take considerably longer to become consistent worldwide.
- The record's TTL value influences how long cached information may remain in use.
During propagation, some visitors may reach the old service while others reach the new one. Avoid repeatedly changing the same record, as this can make troubleshooting more difficult.
If a change has not appeared after the expected TTL has passed, check the authoritative nameservers, record name, record value and whether multiple conflicting records exist.
